This accessibility statement applies to Oriel College’s main website:, alumni website: and the website for the Centre for the Study of the Bible:

This website is run by Oriel College. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • the vitual tour is not useable with keyboard only navigation, and the movement cannot be paused.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Oriel College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website launched on 31st August 2022. We are currently undertaking a review of accessibility on this website, and this should be complete by the end of December 2022, when this statement will be updated.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Virtual tour

There is a virtual tour of Oriel College, which allows people to explore the college grounds if they are unable to visit.

The virtual tour cannot be paused, and is also not possible to navigate with keyboard only navigation. The fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.2.2 (pause, stop, hide) and 2.1.1 (keyboard).

We are unable to fix this at this time, and ask anyone having difficulty accessing it to get in touch. We will explore options to fix this.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Prerecorded videos

Some of our videos are not audio described. This makes it difficult for people who are visually impaired to access all the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.5 (Audio description (Prerecorded).

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix Prerecorded time-based media published before Septemeber 2020. However, we will endeavour to provide transcripts of some of the key videos on the site.

Any new videos we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Third party platforms

We often create content which is hosted on third party platforms. This includes:

  • content we create for social media
  • video which we host on YouTube, SoundCloud or Vimeo
  • Publications on Issuu

We are responsible for ensuring the content we supply meets accessibility requirements; however, we are not responsible for the accessibility of the platform itself.
