Celebration of Sport: An Evening with the Vice-Chancellor and Chris Mahoney (1978)

Orielenses and guests are warmly invited back to College on Saturday 20 June for a special Celebration of Sport as we recognise the remarkable contribution sport has made to life at Oriel.

We’re thrilled to be welcoming back Orielensis and Olympic medallist Chris Mahoney (1978), in conversation with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Irene Tracey andPro-Vice-Chancellor for Sport, Professor Alex Betts before drinks and dinner in Hall to celebrate Oriel’s sporting achievements, past and present.

The Senior Library exhibition, including an Orielensis’ Gold Olympic Medal and more will also be open for viewing from 4pm.

An afternoon of sports and activities from 2-4pm will include the choice of Cricket at Bartlemas, Rowing with the Boat Club and the opportunity to play Chess Grand Master John Nunn (1970) in a simultaneous exhibition match in College alongside garden games.

Evening Programme:

    • 17:30: Drinks in third Quad begin
    • 17:45: VC and Pro VC of sport, in conversation with Chris Mahoney (1978), Olympic medallist, Third Quad
    • 18:30: Drinks continue in Third Quad
    • 19:00: Dinner in Hall

Guests 14+ are more than welcome to attend the full programme. The dress code for dinner is smart casual.
