To celebrate Oriel’s 700th anniversary, Oriel Fellow and Director of Music David Maw has organised a series of concerts in conjunction with Music at Oxford.
Works from Handel, Mozart and Poulenc will be brought to life by French composer and organist Thierry Escaich alongside The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zane Dalal (1983).
The concert will also feature the Choir of Oriel College, conducted by Alexander Pott, as part of this celebratory evening at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin on Friday 20 November at 8pm.

About the performers:
Thierry Escaich is a unique figure on today’s musical scene: one of the most sought-after contemporary composers, he is also a world-renowned organist and one of the foremost ambassadors of the French school of improvisation. A member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts since 2013, he was appointed titular organist of Notre-Dame de Paris in 2024.
As a performer, he appears in prestigious venues across the globe and is regularly invited to perform with major orchestras under distinguished conductors.
Zane Dalal was born and educated in England. He matriculated at Oriel in 1983 and held the Organ Scholarship. During his tenure the choir made several tours within the United Kingdom, notably to the cathedrals at Lichfield, Ely, Coventry and York. He holds Masters Degrees in Music from both the University of Oxford and from Indiana University, Bloomington.
