Join us at evensong to hear the premiere of our Visiting Fellow in Music Cheryl Frances-Hoad’s anthem.
The anthem was commissioned to celebrate 40 years since the admission of female students. Cheryl was inspired by Judith Bingham’s Oriel Magnificat, commissioned in 2015 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the admission of female students. Cheryl’s anthem uses text and music from the thirteenth-century sequence ‘O Maria, virgo pia’, on which Judith based her composition. Both works will be featured in the choir’s CD recording to be issued to celebrate Oriel’s septcentenary next year.
The choir will sing Bingham’s Oriel service alongside Cheryl’s new anthem. Both composers will be present at the service. Seats are first come first serve, please arrive early if you would like to attend.
