James Hill: ‘An Ethical Journey through the History of Manipulation in Photojournalism’

James Hill is a photojournalist for The New York Times whose images have won many of photography’s most important prizes, including a Pulitzer Prize for his work capturing the US-led war on terror in Afghanistan.

A History graduate from Oriel College, James started his career as a freelance photojournalist in Kyiv in 1991, before moving to Moscow. He has covered the dissolution of the Soviet Union and subsequent rise of Putin, as well as modern Russia in the years leading up to the war in Ukraine.

Alongside his photographic work he teaches ‘Ethics and Photojournalism’ at Sciences Po, Paris, and his archives will soon be transferred to the Bodleian Libraries.
