Open House and Gardens – Bere Mill

Please note: this event has already passed.

We are pleased to invite alumni and guests to an open gardens generously hosted by Rupert Nabarro (1963) at his home in Hampshire on Saturday, 11 June 2022. Join us from 2pm at Bere Mill, which sits alongside the River Test and its picturesque water meadows.

On the Upper Test with water meadows and wooded valleys, Rupert’s garden offers herbaceous borders, bog and Mediterranean plants, as well as a replanted orchard and two small arboretums. Features include early bulbs, species tulips, Japanese prunus, peonies, wisteria, irises, roses, and semi-tropical planting. The garden is complemented by a small mixed grassland farm with traditional breeds of sheep and cattle; this is both to enhance the landscape surrounding the garden, but also to practice traditional self-sufficient farming practices.

Rupert will be giving a short talk on the garden at 3pm. Some refreshments will be provided, but please do bring your own picnic should you require more substantial food. There is ample parking available. For more information regarding the house and gardens please click here.
