From disruption to decarbonisation: the future of energy
Professor Jan Rosenow will be joined by Greg Jackson, one of the world’s leading energy innovators and founder and CEO of Octopus Energy, in the Senior Library on Thursday 7 May at 5pm. The discussion will explore how digital technologies, renewable energy, and electrification are reshaping energy systems in the UK and around the world. Following the session there will be a drinks reception from 6pm. The session will also be livestreamed on Oriel’s YouTube Channel.
Drawing on Octopus Energy’s experience, Greg Jackson will reflect on how data, software, and customer-centred design have disrupted traditional energy markets, enabled the large-scale integration of renewables, and accelerated the electrification of heat, transport, and industry. He will also reflect on his own journey as an entrepreneur and the lessons learned from building a company at the forefront of the global energy transition.
Professor Rosenow will bring a policy and research perspective to the challenges and opportunities of delivering a fast, fair, and affordable energy transition. Together, they will examine what this transformation means for consumers, markets, and policymakers, and the leadership and innovation required to accelerate progress globally.
