The British Embassy in Israel maintains and develops relations between the UK and Israel. It aims to promote Britain’s security, prosperity and well-being, and regional peace, through partnership with Israel. It deals with political, commercial, security and economic questions of interest to the UK and Israel and provides consular assistance to British nationals in the country.

Simon was most recently in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as Director of National Security for the Middle East and Africa. He has previously been posted to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen and from 2008 to 2011 served in Her Majesty’s Consul in Jerusalem.

He will take up his new appointment in August this year, and has been undertaking an intensive course in the Hebrew language in preparation.
