Students calling alumni raise £178,000 in telephone campaign

A total of £178,000 has been raised by students ahead of Oriel College’s 700th anniversary in 2026. The funds were contributed by generous Orielenses during a telephone campaign.

A team of 12 students spoke with over 400 alumni. They shared stories from their time living and learning at Oriel College, and the alumni exchanged anecdotes in return.

The students also updated alumni on recent developments at Oriel, such as the current renovations to the kitchen and bar and the planned refurbishment of the Senior Library.

Margaret Jones, Treasurer, said: “At a time when the UK higher education sector as a whole is facing increased financial strain, we’re fortunate to have such a dedicated and generous alumni community, who continue to show their support for Oriel College.”

The funds raised by students will support bursaries and grants, as well as the restoration of Oriel’s listed heritage site.
