700th Anniversary Weekend: Classical Concert

The 700th Anniversary weekend celebrations commence with a special classical music concert taking place in the Senior Library. We’re thrilled to welcome back Andreas Scholl and Tamar Halperin, Visiting Fellows in Music 2020-2022.

The event will begin with a pre-concert reception at 7pm, followed by the concert in Oriel’s Senior Library at 8pm.

Andreas Scholl

Andreas Scholl has the world’s most cultured counter-tenor voice. During his three Handel arias some 6,000 people scarcely dared breathe.” (The Times). A Grammy-nominated artist, he has won numerous awards and prizes including the Cultural Prize of the State of Hessen which he was awarded together with his wife, the pianist Tamar Halperin, the ECHO Award, the Gramophone Award and the Edison Award. He was the first counter-tenor ever to appear at the Last Night of the Proms.

Tamar Halperin

Described by The Guardian as “a performer of real distinction…exquisite & breathtaking,” Israeli musician Tamar Halperin follows a unique musical path, being both a Bach-specialised academic, and a performer of exceptional versatility on piano and harpsichord. She moves with dexterity through musical styles of five centuries, always combining historically-informed approach with a forward-looking vision and use of contemporary technology.
