Patricia Mativo (2024) organised and hosted an inclusive dinner that brought together students with disabilities at the Côte Brasserie, Oxford.
Students from across the university were invited to celebrate inclusivity and foster a supportive network for students with disabilities. The dinner welcomed forty attendees, including Oriel College’s Provost.
The event was inspired by Mativo’s personal experiences and aimed to provide students with disabilities an opportunity to find their community, share experiences and create a network of support. By exchanging insights on navigating university life amid challenges and barriers, attendees were able to learn from each other’s journeys and develop strategies to thrive at Oxford.
The initiative was made possible through joint EDI funding from four colleges, Oriel, Christ Church, University and Corpus Christi, with extra support provided by the Oriel MCR and its President, Diego Ramirez Alcalde.
The dinner highlighted the importance of student-driven efforts and collaborative partnerships in promoting inclusivity and representation. The Provost said: “Patricia is an outstanding Orielensis. Her drive to create events like this helps Oriel College’s commitment to creating spaces where all students can feel valued, supported and empowered to succeed.”
